Parks Make Life Better: Promoting Playtime

Recently, there have been questions about the construction in Lapping Park located directly behind the Wooded View Golf Course driving range.  Will it be a basketball court?  Will it be an addition to the golf course?  Well in actuality, it is going to remain a play area for residents and their families.  So what is going on with all the digging?lapping2

This season rain has become a big fan of the Southern Indiana area as we can tell from all the recent storms and showers.  Yet, have you ever wondered how the downpour affects the parks?  Many times the rain can cause problems that limit daily adventures whether that means a wet playground or muddy trials.  In this case, rain water has been known to accumulate in the open area behind the driving range, leaving the grounds flooded.  With so much water, residents are unable to utilize this area and usually continue their venture to find a different spot.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation has decided to work with the rain rather than fight against its constant visits.  To adapt, the parks department has decided to fill in lower areas of this part of Lapping Park to prevent standing water and promote playtime.  Crews will be working in the coming weeks to better grade the area behind the driving range.lapping4

“The area’s drainage is being improved to promote a better play area,” said Brian Kaluzny, Superintendent of the Parks.  “By moving extra soil, we will be able to stop water from filling in lower spaces and allow families to spend time in the area whether rain or shine.”

This means less waiting-to-dry-time and more play time!

There is currently no set date for the project to be completed, but we hope to have it finished as quickly as possible, with the area being seeded by the fall.
