Colder weather is on the way, and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is already working on a special program to keep area kids active and entertained during the winter months. Its called the Saturday Morning Program, or (SMP).
The program was created more than three decades ago with a goal of keeping Clarksville kids moving during the winter months. Activities include bowling, indoor swim, ice skating, gymnastics, and more. Over the years the program has grown in popularity so much, that often times the events fill up within a matter of hours of registration opening.
The FREE program is open to kids ages 5-12, and runs every Saturday from January 11th through March 14th. Each event lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours, and supervision is provided by our trained Parks Department staff. Parents are not required to stay during the events, so they also find the time useful for running errands without children in tow.
Registration for each activity opens one week in advance, beginning at Noon. For most events, space is limited to just 50 children, so parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible each week. The program is open to ALL southern Indiana kids, and you are not required to be a Clarksville resident. Registration closes the Thursday before each event, or when the program is full. Parents may learn more about the program or register their children online at ClarksvilleParks.com, or by calling the Clarksville Parks office at 812-283-5313.
